1. General Disclaimer: For Information and Organization Only

Everything SilverBeacon provides is for informational, educational and organizational purposes only. This includes our assessments, frameworks, articles, checklists, workbooks and registers. Our tools are used by older adults, their families and the professionals who serve them. They help people organize information, prepare for important conversations and work more effectively with their advisors.

We do not provide professional advice. Nothing on this site or in our tools should be treated as:

  • Medical diagnosis, clinical care recommendations or health treatment.

  • Legal advice, elder law counsel or legal document preparation.

  • Financial planning, tax, investment or valuation advice.

Consult qualified professionals. Laws and circumstances vary by state and by person. Review your plans with qualified, licensed professionals, such as an estate planning or elder law attorney, a professional fiduciary, a CPA, a financial advisor, your physician or a care manager.

No professional relationship. Using our site, taking an assessment or buying or receiving one of our tools does not create an attorney–client, fiduciary, advisory or other professional relationship between you and SilverBeacon.

2. Our Tools and Your Information

SilverBeacon tools are standalone files, such as fillable PDFs and spreadsheets, that you download and keep. They are not a cloud service.

  • We never see what you enter. Your tools stay on your own computer or on paper. SilverBeacon does not host, receive, store or have access to anything you write in them.

  • We collect only what is needed. Our tools are designed to record where information is kept, not the sensitive information itself. Record only the last four digits of any account or policy number. Never enter full account numbers, passwords, PINs, Social Security numbers or answers to security questions. This follows the same standard courts use to protect personal information in filings.

  • Your responsibility. Because your information stays with you, you are responsible for storing, protecting and backing up your completed tools. SilverBeacon cannot recover a lost file or retrieve information from a lost or damaged device. Keep completed tools in a secure place and share them only with people you trust or with your advisors, using a secure method they recommend.

3. How You May Be Using Our Tools

  • If you are using a tool for yourself. Our tools help you get organized and prepare for conversations with your family and advisors. They do not replace a properly prepared estate plan. When you are ready to act on what you have gathered, take it to a qualified professional.

  • If you are completing a tool for a parent, spouse or other family member. Please involve them as much as possible and respect their privacy and wishes. Use and share their information only with their permission, or when you have legal authority to act for them, such as a power of attorney. Treat what you gather as their confidential information.

  • If a professional gave you this tool. Any advice you receive comes from that professional, not from SilverBeacon. Information you share with them is governed by their privacy practices and professional obligations.

  • If you are a professional using our tools with clients. Our tools are organizing aids. You remain solely responsible for all advice, classifications, valuations, court filings, data security and compliance with applicable law and professional rules. Professional editions are subject to the license terms provided with them.

4. Privacy, Trust and Ethics

Our approach to privacy is simple: we do not collect, track or store your private health or financial information.

  • No health or financial data. SilverBeacon.net is not a database for personal health or financial records. We do not collect Protected Health Information (PHI) and are not a HIPAA-covered service.

  • What we do collect. Information you choose to give us, such as your name and email address when you buy a tool, sign up for our newsletter or contact us. Our website platform and payment processor may also collect standard information such as cookies, basic site analytics and payment details, under their own privacy policies.

  • No selling data. We will never sell, rent or trade your contact information. We use it only to deliver what you asked for and to support you.

  • Responsible use of technology. Some content and tools are developed with the help of artificial intelligence. Every framework, tool and article is reviewed and edited by people before it is published.

5. No Guarantees

We work to keep our tools accurate, practical and current, but every situation is different. SilverBeacon makes no guarantees or warranties about the completeness, accuracy or suitability of any content or tool for your situation. Decisions made using our materials are the responsibility of the person making them and their advisors.
